History of Pafos Athletic Union

Pafos Athletic Union is the product of fusion of two Pafian historical associations, APOP and Evagoras.

The fusion was judged imperative and necessary after the very bad economic situation which the two associations had, but also their poor result.

Evagoras and APOP were the "elevator" in Cypriot Football, as going from A’ to B’ Division was a usual phenomenon and for the two teams.

The Pafos football fans watching the bad course of two historical associations pushed for their unification, having the hope that this would turn out to their better interest.

Indeed in 2000, by having received enough promises for economic support from the enterprising people, the municipalities and other athletic factors, PAFOS ATHLETIC UNION was born.

The new football team composed of the best footballers from Evagoras and APOP, as were Pachtalias, Stefanou, Sofokleous, Giorgos Pegklis (from Kavala), and the African Loupachla and Moyio.

With this potential, Pafos Athletic Union accomplished the first year to take the 8th place in the grading table in the A' Division.

Unfortunately, the big financial weights that the team inheritated after the unification of the two historical associations and the breach of promises from the state side, wiped away the initial fans, coaches’, administration’s and players’ enthusiasm.

Pafos Athletic Union considering a must the association’s survival as the only association that represents Pafos, advances in the application of movements and changes for the economic cleansing and upgrade. It is time to place the right bases for the team and to plan for the future. The Team’s Committee  Board created a Marketing Department and already engaged new Administrative Personnel for the team’s better organization and operation. 

The rebirth of the team is an imperative need and it needs the help of the people of Pafos so that our team comes back to the A’ Division with robust bases and with the right program for the future.
